EPIC-BEST Breastfeeding Training Project
Educating Physicians In their Communities (EPIC) – Breastfeeding Education, Support and Training (BEST)
A program for Providers and Office Staff
The Office of Public Health’s Bureau of Family Health and Nutrition Services / WIC Program, in partnership with the LBC, have adapted New Jersey’s Breastfeeding Education, Support and Training (NJ BEST) program to educate pediatric, family and OB providers and their staff to empower them to initiate sustainable change for their patients and families around best breastfeeding practices. This initiative aligns efforts of the BFH’s Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition /Continuity of Care Connections Work Plan with the WIC Program’s Community Engagement Plan to Improve Breastfeeding.
The program curriculum is organized around three components: attitude, skills and knowledge.
Training participants will be able to:
The in-office training will be a 1 – 1 ½ hours, and offered at no-cost to the practice. Continuing education credits (CME and CNE) will be offered to physicians and nurses in attendance. The trainings will be delivered by a team, including a physician, a local WIC representative and an LBC Member/Breastfeeding Expert (IBCLC).
Practices/Offices are being recruited statewide to receive the EPIC-BEST breastfeeding training. For more information or questions about the project, please contact Betsy Dancisak, Breastfeeding Program Coordinator at Betsy.Dancisak@la.gov or call 504-568-3513.
